Star-Ledger writer Pete Genovese doesn't have a problem with the industrial heart of North Jersey. In fact, he thinks it's quite charming.
Without irony, he wrote, "I love the smell of Exit 15W - or 13A - in the morning. That peculiarly winsome blend of diesel, dust, and whatever vapors happens to be airborne at that moment - a whiff of spoiled eggs one day, burning tires another, creamy butterscotch (or is that vanilla?) the next. Sometimes everything mixed together in one heady, chemically aromatic bouillabaisse."
Again, he wrote that purely devoid of irony. Go read his full love song to the Turnpike and you'll soon realize he's being serious.
But he's not alone. NJ.com user unreligious wrote:
While I live in New York not New Jersey. We too have some funky industrial areas. I like the author find these areas on both sides of the Hudson fascinating. I guess it takes a certain kind of person to see [their] beauty. Glad to know there are kindred spirits out there.
Are you among those kindred spirits? Do you enjoy admiring the factories and marshes and machines that litter large parts of North Jersey? Comment here to let us know if you do.
